Regional Economic Development Alignment
This project is also in direct alignment with the "Clallam County Connected Community Principles" as stated in the 2003-07 Clallam netWorks Economic Development Council’s Strategic Plan as adopted by the Board of Directors (see attached Board of Directors Roster):Ensure that the region maintains a qualified workforce by developing a community that embraces change and has access to high quality life-long education.
Leverage community resources in the creation of a diverse set of new job opportunities in sustainable, identified, industry clusters; raise the average wage in Clallam County.
Make sure one’s zip code does not limit one’s access to government services, business, healthcare or education opportunities, thus saving time and money and improving service availability and quality.
Become a community of creative solutions where government, education and business recognize, appreciate and adopt an entrepreneurial spirit.
Facilitate community projects and practices to promote collaborative behavior, connectivity, and changed spending, investing and budgeting.
Conclusion
This project has the potential for several successful outcomes. First, the funding will allow the community the ability to leverage current local efforts with an on-the-ground staff person. Economic and community sustainability will take place through training, community empowerment, and a collaborative focus developed in the project strategic plan process. It is apparent that increased employment and business opportunities will occur both within the project timeline and as part of future business recruitment. Finally, Clallam Bay/Sekiu will be a viable partner in the future success of regional projects and for other rural communities facing the same economic and community challenges and opportunities.
