August 22, 2007 Community Advisory Council. Meeting Notes

Member attendance: Joseph Murray, Patti Adler, Ted Muralt, JoAnn Willard, Le Ann Fletcher and Katie Fletcher.
Guest attendance: None
Audience                Brian Adler

The meeting was called to order by Chair Joe Murray at 5:10. Joe Murray indicated that this session would be dedicated to establishing subjects for the town meeting.

It was moved and seconded that the minutes from the previous meeting be approved as written except that the member attendance would be changed to reflect the attending members rather than listing those that were not in attendance. Additionally, it was suggested not to make the minutes so detailed in the future (just more of an outline or notes).

After contributions from all members, the following subjects were suggested for the town meeting.

We are very interested in assisting seniors in Clallam Bay. There may be grant resources available to help meet your community's particular needs, but we would need to learn more about the issues unique to Clallam Bay (which I know remoteness is a big one!). Our Partnership is about transforming how aging is viewed in our county AND how elders are served, so we would be very interested in coming out to talk with you (and others) about how we might work together. Do you have any community events/meetings scheduled in the near future that would be appropriate for us to attend?
We look forward to talking with you -

Forks Hospital
building a new clinic in forks. Discuss status and capabilities.

Clallam Bay Corrections Center (Karen) to discuss prisoner benefits, re-entry proposals and prisoner training/manufacturing (new factory) concepts.

Septic Tank System inspections (County planning): Discuss status, proposed assessment fees, costs and free classes (called Septics 101) given through out the year

Other Items
Patti Adler indicated that the Chamber was considering having a local agency community meeting involving each of the local agencies (the Lyons club, the seniors, the west end Youth, the Crisis Center, the local Food Bank, the Advisory Council, the Chamber, etc.) to discuss what each group has accomplish over the years and what is intended in the future. The Advisory Council relayed to Patti, that the Council would definitely contribute to the group agency meeting.

The Clallam County Park bridge was finally repaired by the county (temporarily dug up and placed the end of the walkway onto the beach). The county (as stated at the $100 K grant community meeting) is considering a permanent repair for the bridge, such as an articulating walkway, which is raised in the wintertime.

Sekiu Airport: Ted Muralt said that the Sekiu Airport meeting was concluded on June 28th with the Port Authorities (Robert McChesney: Exec. Dir., John Calhoun: Vice President, and Jeffery Robb: Airport/Marinas Mgr.), the Sekiu airport committee (Patt Ness, Arlen Olson and Martin Brand) and the Advisory Council members (Mike Doherty and Ted Muralt). The Port Authorities walked the runway with Martin Brand, assessed the conditions and made assurances that the port was committed to maintain the Airport. However, there appears to be no move to contract the project.

The next Meeting to be on September 26, 5:00 PM at the School Administration Office. Preliminary agenda is to firm up the town meeting subjects, proposed participants and time.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:30.
