Clallam Bay - Sekiu CATalyst for Change Grant Process/Progress

The Clallam Bay - Sekiu Community hiring team interviewed several high quality applicants for the Project Manager (PM) position on January 12, 2008. Sasha Sicks was selected and formally hired on February 1, 2008 and introduced at the community meeting on February 2, 2008. Sasha will assist with Community and Economic Development Planning and Projects. She will serve as a liaison with existing community groups to identify, prioritize and accomplish projects aimed at diversifying and promoting economic development, tourism, cultural heritage and community/youth activities in accordance with the USDA/EDC GrantOffice space for Sasha is provided at the CHAMBER Visitor Center in Clallam Bay. Sasha will attend local community meetings and will receive guidance through the Community Action Team (CAT) as supervised by the Community Advisory Council (CAC) chairman (Joe Murray)  and Chamber president (Brian Adler).
Initial Members of the Community Action Team (CAT) selected at the February 2 meeting are as follows:
  1. Kathleen Haney (West End Youth & Seniors)
  2. Sandy Tsiang (Tourism Committee Chair)
  3. Patti Adler (Prison Advisory Council - Sewer Advisory Council - CAC - Sheriffs Advisory Council)
  4. Bill Drath (State Parks Ranger)
  5. Brian Adler (Chamber President)

The CAT Calling to Arms for the Community



At a community meeting on March 8, 2008, Clallam Bay/Sekiu chose four top economic development initiatives:

  1. Revitalize Downtown Areas (37 votes),
  2. Develop Tourism Opportunities (25 votes),
  3. Develop a Community Farm/ Food Co-op (24 votes), and
  4. Develop Community Infrastructure (23 votes).
There will be meetings for the 4 workgroups to discuss and plan actions over the next several months
